The Austin Veteran Arts Festival (AVAFEST) Run, Walk, & Roll 5K +1M fun run/walk is hosted by the Veterans Suicide Prevention Channel aiming to address veteran suicide by unifying veterans with their communities through different art mediums. This is a race for athletes of all capabilities including those who use wheelchairs or prosthetic devices. The race is part of the month-long festival which uses art to foster creative expression in our veterans to decrease the negative symptoms associated with traumatic events. The AVAFest will include a variety of activities, such as art exhibits, live dance, theater performances, and a conference centered on health and wellness. These events will serve as an opportunity for veterans, their family members, and the surrounding community to experience the healing power of art and learn about local, state, and national resources serving the veteran population. To learn more about the month long events visit www.avafest.org By bringing awareness to the healing power of art, and its ability to aid those who have suffered severe trauma, AVAFEST hopes to have a positive impact on the veteran community by decreasing the rate of veteran suicide.
