The 6 Mile Relay features:
- Live music in the shared team area - Returning team champions from 2009 will race in the coveted Yellow Jersey singlets - two hay bale obstacles - eight different races in four categories
With rock music blaring and tents dotting the meadow at Norbuck Park like a scene from a regional jamboree, people were on hand Saturday, August 29, 2009 to participate in the opening of this year’s cross country season.
High school runners from 60 different schools competed in last year’s Greenhill/Luke’s Locker 6 Mile Relay, the 25th edition of the meet. Sponsored in part by Asics and Luke's Locker, the 6 Mile Relay traditionally opens the cross country season for high school teams in north Texas and beyond.Cedar Park and Southlake Carroll were the respective boys and girls 5A/4A team champions, with each racing to commanding wins. Cedar Park was paced by a strong anchor leg from soon to be Oregon Duck Parker Stinson, the bronze medalist in the Pan Am Games 10,000 meter run. Meanwhile, newcomers Vandegrift on the boys side and Rouse for the girls claimed titles in the 3A and under race. All four teams hope to be back for the 2010 race and will be wearing the coveted yellow singlets as returning champions.
